Every time I hear the song ‘Remind Me Who I Am x Jason Gray’ on the radio, the words really hit me.
I think it’s really easy to dwell on our pasts or let our current problems make us forget who we are as seen by Jesus.
Maybe your past includes seeking attention from guys (or girls) and finding your worth in them. Maybe you were an addict to something- alcohol, drugs, porn, the thrill of the party. Maybe it was the lies you told. Maybe it’s the labels the world gave you that dragged you down. Maybe it’s your own thoughts that make you forget who you are. The list goes on.
And maybe you still deal with these problems.
I get it.
I get how easy it is to let go of your past mistakes and let them make you forget who you are now or working to be. I get how hard it is to change the way you look at yourself. Satan has a good way of letting his lies control our true identity in Jesus. We feel random guilt or unworthiness. Maybe you feel like you’re not better than those mistakes or problems. It seems too hard to see yourself as God sees you.
I’ll be real with you- there were days that I woke up after being so lost from the relationship I once had with Christ and couldn’t see myself differently than who I used to be. The girl who went down the wrong path for a little. The girl that had so much loneliness and confusion and desire to please others, she turned to anything but Jesus.
But, it was only Jesus that reminded me of my worth when I couldn’t see myself as worthy.
We are nothing less than what the blood of Jesus did for us. What God’s grace did for us. What true love did for us. We are made new and we are made new every. single. day. We are never defined as our mistakes and problems in the eyes of God.
You are beloved. Redeemed. Cherished. Forgiven. Made new. Sought after. Covered in amazing grace. A child of the King.
I’ve learned the best way to be reminded of who you are, is to pray to have eyes like God. To be able to see the world and yourself as He sees it and you. Pray to tune out the lies and be filled with the beautiful truth of your true identity.
“I’m the one You love, that will be enough.”
